This 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course held at our Sunderland studio is spread over 22 days, with 180 on course hours.

The content of this training course has been professionally recognised and endorsed by the awarding body, Active IQ – a CIMSPA Endorsed Awarding Organisation

The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance.

Course Modules and Structure

Asana Practice

Learn over 100 Asanas and how to teach them including; alignment cues, dristi focal point, benefits and aims, teaching points, modifications, adaptations, contraindications, common errors, tactile cueing (the art of adjustment). Postures in the following positions are taught – Sun Salutations; Standing Postures; Balance Postures; Seated Postures; Spinal Twists; Arm Balances; Forward Bends; Back Bends; Inversions; Restorative Yoga.

Structure of a Yoga class

Learn how to compile lesson plans appropriate for a beginner, intermediate or advanced Yoga session, with a structured warm up, standing poses, balance poses, floor poses, including specific modifications and adaptations for clients of varying abilities.

Teaching skills

Understand the professional qualities of an instructor, ethics and code of practice. Teaching skills such as: Communication Skills; Voice projection and intonation; Reasonable adaptations, modifications and progressions; The art of adjustment; Teaching position and demonstrations; Layering technique; Observation and correction; Learning styles

Pranayama

Understand the various types of prana and their location within the body. Practice different breathwork techniques and how to progress clients from Conscious Breathing, to Pre-Pranayama exercises, to the classical full Pranayama techniques.  Over 20 methods are taught including Sectional Breathing; Mahat Yoga Pranayama; Savitra Pranayama; Sukha Purvakha Pranayama; Anuloma Viloma; Nadi Shodhana; Kapalabhati; Bhastrika; Surya Bedhana; Sitali; Sitkari, Ujjayi; Bramhari and Ugdeeth Pranayama.

Bhandas and Mudras

Learn the three main body locks and gain an insight into their power to redirect and contain prana within the body. Identify a variety of different hand positions (hasta mudras) and their meanings and significance when performing them during meditation and pranayama.  Identify when to use specific mudras for a variety of health conditions.

Mantras

Understand the power of mantra and the effect of specific sound vibrations to clear help heal the body.  Chanting clears the throat chakra and opens the heart chakra, allowing us to experience joy.  Mantra repetition allows us to control our thoughts. Learn nine key mantras from the yoga tradition, their meaning and significance.

Meditation and Yoga Nidra

Understand the real meaning of meditation – to reach the state of mind called Dhyana, which is the 7th limb on the 8 limbs of yoga – the penultimate stop before Samadhi or enlightenment. Understand the importance and benefits of proper relaxation, both on a physical, mental and emotional level.  Techniques including Yoga Nidra; Japa Meditation; Transcendental Meditation; Body Scan Meditation; Guided Visualisation Techniques; Gong Meditation; Tratakum will be taught.

Chakras

Understand how prana moves around the body through the various network of nadis, which collect at specific points known as chakras.  Each chakra is associated with a particular colour and organ of the body and there can be health implications if there are any blockages that impede the flow of prana.  Each chakra is associated with specific qualities, so the aim is to keep each chakra balanced and healthy.  Learn to identify yoga asanas, pranayamas and meditaton to assist in correcting any imbalances.

Anatomy and Physiology

Learn musculo-skeletal anatomy as related to movement and posture. Identify the major bones and joints of the body. Understand origins, insertions and muscle actions of the individual superficial and deep muscles of the body. Identify which groups of muscles act together to produce specific movement.

Yoga History and Philosophy

Gain an understanding of the five thousand year history of yoga from it’s origins in the Vedic scriptures, to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. Learn the true essence of this spiritual practice and the Eight Limbs of Yoga.  Learn the names and associated qualities from the various Hindu gods and goddesses, through to the modern day lineages of different yoga traditions.  There are many different yogic concepts to learn and understand including: Karma; Dharma; Reincarnation; Cycle of Samsara to name but a few.

Teaching a class

Experience teaching individual asanas in partners throughout the course, culminating in a mock assessment, teaching a whole class from your designed lesson plans and get feedback to improve performance in time for the final practical assessment.

Pricing Structure and Fees

Course Cost

The total cost for the 22 days (200 hours) course is £2,400. If paid in full, the price is reduced to £2,200.

An initial non-refundable deposit of £400 guarantees your place followed by regular monthly instalments until the final balance is settled. The balance must be paid in full at least 28 days before course completion.

Manual Cost

The cost of the instructor manual is £21.99

Final Assessment Fee

The cost for your assessor to view your end of course exam class is £65

Prerequisites

You can take this training course if you are not in the fitness industry, since you will be taught everything from scratch

Attendance at a yoga class for a minimum of six months. If you have less than six months attendance, exceptions can be made under certain circumstances, depending upon your existing background experience.

This consists of designing 3 Lesson plans for a beginner, intermediate and advanced session

How do I sign up?

You must pay your initial deposit (see fees above) and complete the application form to be accepted onto the course. The form will be emailed to emma@mybodystudios.co.uk

General Terms and Conditions of Course Booking

No refunds are offered under any circumstances. You may apply to postpone your place to a later course (if one is available) or transfer your place to the online course by request in writing.

The 200 hours is made up of 22 days training. This equates to 180 hours of contact hours plus a minimum of another 20 hours distant learning (homework tasks, projects, etc.).

You understand the costs involved in taking this training including the cost of the course itself (£2,400) and the course manual (£21.99 due before start of course) plus the exam video assessment fee (£65 due 7 days before the date of your assessment).

You understand that upon payment of minimum of £400 deposit, your place on the course is guaranteed. A monthly payment plan is offered, with the full balance must be settled (totaling £2,400) and all payments must be finalised 28 days before course completion date.

In order to gain certification, you must gain a minimum of 80% attendance on the 22 training dates. In addition, you must successfully pass the one hour practical assessment (teaching a yoga class to a minimum of 4 students); Design three yoga lesson plans; Yoga Theory Paper (70% pass mark).

As part of the certification requirements, you will be expected to complete all homework tasks, which include teaching friends and colleagues; written worksheets and designing lesson plans.

Union Yoga UK and Pilates Union UK reserves the right to cancel any course under which circumstances, the tuition fees will be refunded in full.

Union Yoga UK and Pilates Union UK reserves the right to refuse any student onto the course if the prerequisites are not satisfied or for other similar reasons.

Union Yoga UK and Pilates Union UK reserves the right to expel any student from the course, due to academic misconduct, non-attendance on course, violent or threatening behavior or other similar circumstances, without notice. Upon such circumstances, the student will lose any financial fees or expenses paid.

Refunds and Cancellations

No refunds are offered under any circumstances. Should you wish to postpone your course to a different date (if one is available), or transfer the course to the online version (when available), then you must put that in writing via email to emma@pilatesunion.co.uk and to your course tutor.
