Do you recognise any of the following qualities in you?
Catastrophic thinking
Overanalysing situations
Worry habit
Making mountains out of molehills
Negative thought process
Rigid thinking
You are not taught how to think in school, so many people don’t realise that thinking is a choice, depending upon your beliefs and your perception.
Consider thoughts as little bundles of energy, sending out a vibration into the Universe, which will pick up on this frequency. Since the Universe is indifferent (there is no good or bad), then the Universe will give you an experience to support your beliefs. So, negative thoughts attract negative events and situations into your life – according to the Law of Attraction.
The human mind is like a monkey, jumping from one thing to the next and our mind is like a thought-making machine. In fact, it is estimated that we have between 60-90,000 thoughts per day, most of which we have had the day before and the day before that. To have new thoughts, we need to create space within our crowded minds. In order to do this, we need to become silent and reflective – we need to meditate.
During meditation, we learn to watch our thoughts. This is how we know we are bigger than our thoughts. The real YOU (the essence of you or your soul) is the silent observer in the background, witnessing your ever-changing thoughts and emotions.
Just like eating bad food makes us sick, having bad thoughts does not make us feel good. But thinking is a habit and like any habit, we can change it, if it doesn’t serve us. We just have to become conscious of how our mind works and when we recognise that we are thinking negatively, that is the transformative moment of power. When the lightbulb is on, we have the power of choice – we can continue in our usual reactive, unconscious way from our conditioned patterns, or we can change to a positive mindset and think (and therefore attract) positive thoughts and experiences.
